I'm still here

The fact that I haven't posted anything on the blog in over two months says a lot about my life right now!  For the majority of my weeks, I pretty much go to work, go to the gym, and get ready for bed.  Not a very blog-worthy lifestyle.  In addition, I've been making a conscious effort to spend less time on my laptop when I DO have free time.  With all that being said, there's probably so many little things that have happened in the past two months (crossed 4 more things off my 101 in 1001 list!) that if I were to update you all with it right now, you would probably lose interest and stop reading altogether if you haven't already.  But for some reason I had an urge to write in my blog as I was driving home tonight.

Sooooooo let's see..most of my weekends have been jam packed with activities and traveling.  Kevin is officially living in Richmond for the next year working to get his Master's degree.  I'm still in Frederick doing my thang.  We've kinda worked out a system where we alternate visiting each other every other week and the spare week I'll usually do things with my other friends or attempt to get some type of errands done that I can never do during the week.

I'm thinking that now that it's starting to get a little cooler out, I will be back on my blogging grind at LEAST once a month, so stay tuned for my next post! And if you really miss me that bad, I always check my Facebook, Twitter, Instagram on a daily okay, HOURLY basis ;)

101 in 1001: Full-time job!

It's July which means summer is (almost) halfway over and that makes me so sad even thinking about it!   A lot has happened since I last updates the blog.  Remember when I mentioned a job interview a few weeks back in this post?  Well...I got the job!  I've been training for the past two weeks and loving it so far.  My goal was to start a full-time salary job by the end of summer and I did it!  I'm not going to lie, it took a lot of time and effort to apply to so many positions but all the hard work paid off in the end.  Already fantasizing what I'll be spending my first paycheck on...

Other than that big news, not a whole lot is going on in my life right now!  I've always said in my updates that I have no time to post, blah, blah... but now, I REALLY don't have time to post! I'm hoping that after my training period is over, I'll have an extra hour to spend on the internet..especially when I won't have to commute to DC every day.

Friday Favs

Summer never fails to have me inspired by all things natural and beachy.  I came across Kate Davis Jewelry and absolutely fell in love with all of her pieces.  It's all made with natural stones and organic materials.  Her shop is based out of Charleston, SC where I would love to visit someday soon.  I picked a few of my favorites to share on the blog.

1. Cowrie Ring
2. Sierra Vintage Drop Earrings
3. Cayo Cuff
4. Tideline Studs
5. Aro Stacking Rings

Back from my mini vacation to Ocean City Maryland.  Thought I'd squeeze in a little post before I head off to work.  We really couldn't have asked for a nicer two-day stay.  The weather was perfect and I got to see a few friends I hadn't seen in months.  I already can't wait to go back.

Our pool is officially up and running! I'm so excited to be able to go lay out in the backyard and go swimming whenever I want.  It's seriously a little luxury I never thought I'd be able to experience.  Next step is planning some awesome pool parties on the regular ;)

I have a job interview tomorrow for a full-time position.  EEK. Wish me luck! I don't usually share this kind of stuff on my blog, mostly because I don't want to jinx myself, but I have a good feeling about this one.

Enjoy the rest of your week, loves!

missing in action

My blog is crying because I've been neglecting it so badly!! It's gotten progressively worse as the weather warms up.  I mean, how could you blame a girl though?! Anytime I get a hot second to myself now I just want to spend it outside.

I had a post set up LAST last Tuesday and never got around to posting it.  I'm not really sure why, considering all I had to do was click "publish" (laziness at its finest?).

Okay so life lately? Let's see...

// A few weeks ago, Kristi and I went down to Annapolis to visit Katie!  Her family adopted a new puppy and she's the cutest!  Don't let her looks fool you though, she's a little demon baby. We tried to catch some fresh blue crabs for dinner but didn't have much luck.  We were lucky that a few had wandered into the cages before we even got there!

// Kevin and I went golfing at a place near his house.  I hadn't been since the first few times he had taken me when we were still at Salisbury.  Even though it felt blazing hot out, it was a great day to play!  I definitely think I'm improving, I can actually drive the ball now.

// I had a few job interviews last week in the DC/VA area.  I decided to walk around at Tyson's corner since I'm never around.  I stopped at Elevation Burger for a late lunch and now I'm wondering why I hadn't gone there sooner, especially considering the fact that there's one right in Frederick.  I got the Burger wrapped in good.

// (can you see that most of my life involves food?) Watermelon margaritas and guacamole with the boy at our favorite place, La Paz.

// I've pretty much been living off of this oatmeal bake, thanks to Kevin's mom for giving me the recipe.  I eat it for breakfast or snacks and I love it because you can pretty much take it on the go.  Here's the recipe I use:

1 1/2 cups 2% low-fat milk

2 eggs, lightly beaten

2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 tablespoon vanilla
2 1/2 cups Quaker oats (quick or old fashioned). uncooked
2 teaspoons baking powder
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt

Then I just put it in a 9x9 glass pan with some Pam and bake for about 35 mins at 350 simple! I like to add chocolate chips and raspberries to it for sweetness though, because I don't add any sugar to the recipe.

// I dyed my hair extensions that I bought back in February so that they would better match my natural hair color.  My hair lightened dramatically from the sun and my close-to-black hair extensions just weren't cutting it.  So I took a risk and used a box dye on them.  Result: it totally worked!  I'm thrilled I didn't have to spend $100+ at a salon for something that was so easy to do at home.

Oh, did I mention our new house has a pool in the backyard? It's not completely ready yet, but this week we have been skimming it out and filling it with water.  All we need it the new filter to be replaced and then it will be ready for pool party season!

how to: photo editing 101

Taking the picture:

-If you're taking a picture that is definitely going on instagram, switch the camera mode to "square".  This will ensure everything you want is in the picture and you won't have to crop it

-Try to use natural light as much as possible.  Stand near a window or just take the picture outside.

-If you're trying to focus on an object, put it on top of a piece of white paper.  This will make the object stand out and create a cleaner looking photo.

Afterlight-This will probably forever be my go-to photo editing app.  I pretty much use it for every picture I post on my blog.  My favorite features are the brightness, highlights, and all the filters to choose from.  I also edit my photos on my Etsy shop with this app to whiten the paper since it tends to look more yellow in photos.

Picmonkey- Does anyone remember Picnik?  This is probably the equivalent to that site.  I always use this site for my blog collages and my graphics.  The best part about it is that it's FREE! Picmonkey is also relatively easy to navigate compared to some editing programs.

More tips:

-If you're trying to post a photo online but it keeps coming out a little darker or discolored, try saving it as a .png and it should end up saving as the natural color.  I always save my photos as a .png when I'm on picmonkey.

-Avoid using the front facing camera when taking a picture.  It's much grainier and the quality just isn't as good.  Also avoid using IG camera.

Do you have any good photo editing apps?! I'd love to hear about some new ones.  Also, any ways to save my data usage, kindly send them my way..I always end up using all my data for the month before it ends!

VEGAS & 10,000

Hello there!

I'm back on the East coast after a long weekend getaway in Vegas!  What a busy weekend it was.  Lots of exploring in sin city.  The caption of this post is a little misleading--no, I did not win 10,000 dollars gambling.  My bank account took a massive blow and June will be spent recovering from it all.  I tried to take lots of pictures so I could remember the trip in a cute collage.

In other news, I've officially reached over 10,000 page views on my little blog! *CHEERS*  10,211 to be exact.  I just want to thank everyone who checks out my site and I hope you enjoy it enough to keep coming back!  I love when people come up to me and say that I've inspired them to create a blog as well.  I really started this as a creative outlet but I love having it as a way to inspire and keep my family & friends up to date on my life!

Also, I was featured in blog last awesome! Click here for the link to their page, the blog is just as cute as their products!

// I was able to cross FOUR things off my 101 in 1001 list last week:
-ride in a limo
-fly in an airplane
-go zip-lining
-hit 10,000 views on my blog
